Calvados

Calvados is the generic term for classic, French apple brandies.

Produced in the Calvados region in Normandy, a historic area on the northwestern coast of France.

Calvados is distilled from apple cider and aged in oak barrels for a minimum of 2 years.

Well known distilleries are Père Magloire and Château du Breuil.

Calvados is used a lot in cooking, especially in Normandy - and it's one of the best spirits you can use to flambé desserts and other dishes.

Served as aperitif or digestive in thin, stemmed brandy glasses - also known as brandy snifters.
