Danish Christmas Glogg
Danish Christmas glogg is a hot, mulled wine beverage, usually made with red wine, port wine and some strong spirits like Danish schnapps or vodka......and spiced with cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, orange peels, raisins and almonds. It's a typical Danish beverage, traditionally served at Christmas parties during the Advent season. Christmas glogg is served steaming hot in heatproof glasses or mugs. Here in Denmark we enjoy the glogg with Christmas cookies, nuts, lady apples, sweets, clove-pierced clementines, and aebleskiver (a Danish speciality). Danish Christmas glogg recipes vary greatly and it seems as if each family has its very own recipes. Often handed down from generation to generation. Some people use dried citrus peels (orange, lemon, or bitter orange) instead of fresh. Some add white or brown sugar, while others add honey or syrup. Some leave out the spirit, while others make it with Danish schnapps or aquavit, dark rum, whiskey, cognac... Or home made flavoured schnapps such as orange schnapps or lemon schnapps instead of citrus peels.
