Raisin Schnapps

Raisin schnapps - based on fresh, plump raisins - is a sweet, aromatic schnapps with fine taste and flavours of grapes. The colour is light to dark golden.

Can be served with a variety of dishes, including curries, stews, chicken, pork, fish, shellfish, salads, oriental foods, desserts, cheese and cheese cakes.

Or use the schnapps in cookies, breads, cakes, salad dressings, dips and sauces, or any other dish where you would normally use raisins.

Also, a little raisin schnapps is excellent to enhance flavours of other schnappses - or even save a schnapps you are not satisfied with.

Blends very well with...
peach schnapps · cardamom schnapps · liquorice (licorice) schnapps.

turn your raisin schnapps into a liqueur.

Raisins

Grape Vine - Vitis vinifera Raisins are made by drying freshly picked grapes (Vitis vinifera).

Dark raisins have deep colours and flavours, while golden raisins are pale and tangy.

Raisins are a basic natural food and used as an ingredient in many dishes and for baking purposes.

Dark and golden raisins
Growing and harvesting of raisins is one of the most labour intensive in agriculture.

Recipe

Use fresh, plump raisins of good quality.

Direction:

  • Put 100 grams raisins into a clean glass jar with tight-fitting lid.
  • Add 50 centiliter of clear, unflavoured vodka - 40% alcohol content (80 proof).
  • Let steep for 1-2 weeks in a dark place at room temperature,
    18-20°C (64-68°F).
  • Shake lightly and taste it from time to time.
  • Strain and filter your infusion into a clean glass bottle or jar with tight-fitting lid.
  • Store (age) for at least 1 month in a dark place at room temperature before serving.

Note: If for some reason you are not satisfied with your infusion, there are ways to adjust both taste and flavours - click here to see how.

Serve your raisin schnapps at room temperature in suitable glasses. And remember to keep your schnapps bottle tightly closed and in a dark place before and between servings.
