Weinbrand

The word weinbrand is the legally protected designation of origin and quality of premium grape brandies produced in Germany.

The term was patented by the successful distiller Hugo Asbach in 1907.

Only high quality brandies distilled from grape wines and aged in oak barrels for at least six months may be designated Weinbrand.

One fine weinbrand is Asbach Uralt - also known as The Great Brandy from the Rhine.

Weinbrand is the equivalent to the French cognac, only sweeter, milder and softer.

Served as after-dinner drink or used in long, mixed drinks. Also ideally suited for preserving fruits.
